Lyn Knight Currency Auctions will offer more than 3,000 lots of U.S.
and world notes in four public auction sessions June 12 to 15 during
the 38th annual International Paper Money Show in Memphis, Tenn.
One highlight of the auction is a Series 1928 $1,000 gold
certificate, graded Gem New 65 Premium Paper Quality by PCGS Currency.
The note, Lot 256, is estimated by the auction firm to bring $80,000
Knight will also offer the Neil Shafer Collection of Money of the
People at 3 p.m. on June 15. According to Shafer, the notes are
examples of currency made by private businesses and individuals who
were forced by circumstances to create their own paper currency to
survive during wars or other social upheavals. More than 700 lots of
these privately issued pieces will be offered.
