An original Libertas Americana silver medal and a Nobel Prize gold medal were offerings from major auction companies in the aftermath of the ANA's World's Fair of Money.

Among the 248 Capped Bust half dollars offered by Heritage from the Paul Gerrie Collection was an 1817/4 coin graded Very Fine 20 that sold for $288,000.

Introduction of the Capped Bust design on half dollars came in 1807, and a high-grade example from that first year was recently sold by Heritage Auctions for $192,000.

An example of the Overton 111b variety of the 1807 Capped Bust half dollar, known as the "Bearded Goddess," sold for $60,000 in a Heritage auction.

Some very special single year issues will attract plenty of attention as Heritage prepares for a sale in conjunction with the September Long Beach Expo.

The Philips Collection of Greek Coins, assembled over 90 years by a father and son, is set for a Noonans auction, with the anonymous consignor designating proceeds to benefit the Ashmolean Museum.
