As part of the Coin & Currency #44 sale, Dutch Country Auctions will offer four different denominations of notes issued in Panama in 1941. These notes have the significance of being survivors from a period when most of the nation's currency was destroyed.

The only officially issued notes by the country that has used the U.S. dollar since independence, they were only valid for a week or so in 1941 before being recalled and destroyed by the new regime after a coup d’etat.

Last on the market in 1987, these notes were graded by PMG in 2025, some are among the highest graded notes available. The smallest denomination, one balboa, is graded About Uncirculated 55 Exceptional Paper Quality. The 5-balboas is pristine, graded at Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ with only one finer in the PMG census. The 10 balboas note checks in with a grade of Extremely Fine 40.

The high value 20 balboa has the lowest grade of the quartet due to ink staining at Very Fine 30 but has serial number 000002, likely the lowest possible number to be issued.

A sum bid will be available as well for anyone interested in all four notes. Complete details can be found at www.dutchcountryauctions.com
