Numerous historic notes in Archives International Auction 100

Archives International Auctions (AIA) reaches a milestone with Auction 100, a monumental sale that will feature an exceptional selection of U.S. and worldwide bank notes, historical bonds, scripophily, U.S. fiscal documents, warrants, drafts, U.S. colonial currency, and a rich array of other numismatic treasures. The auction will take place on March 26. The live gallery, catalog, and internet auction will take place at the company’s offices in River Edge, New Jersey, and will be accessible online.
The variety of offerings includes over 150 lots of desired world bank notes. The diverse selections include two Canadian essay polymer $20 notes from the 1991 series created by Mobil Oil as a prototype replacement using polymer to replace traditional bank note paper. Also included with world notes are 33 lots of Chinese bank notes and scripophily and notes from more than 50 other countries.
Among the significant and historical U.S. items, a major highlight is the section of over 110 lots dedicated to U.S. Federal bonds, Liberty Loan bonds, federal drafts, warrants, fiscal documents and post office warrants. Key items include an 1898 Spanish-American War $100 bond, believed to be available at auction for the first time. The auction will offer a potentially unique 1933 U.S. Postal Service Savings $500 coupon bond and a Hawaiian Government $500 Postal Savings Bond remainder form.
Other U.S. offerings include lots of colonial and continental currency, obsolete notes and Confederate States of America currency. There will be some rare U.S. Treasury notes from the Act of March 4, 1814, including a $100 remainder note representing one of the earliest Federal notes issued by the United States. This item will hold appeal to collectors interested in the period of the nation’s development history.
Collectors of U.S. paper money will find an extensive offering of over 130 lots of large and small-size bank notes, including national bank notes. Key highlights include a Series 1886 $5 silver certificate in EF condition, a 1928 $100 gold certificate graded PCGS Choice New 63 PPQ and a pair of 1934 and 1934A $1,000 bank notes. Collectors will find additional highlights from all regions of the U.S.
A large collection of rare 1907 Panic Currency and Clearing House certificates is one of the most extensive collections of these items sold in more than 20 years. Among the collection are an 1879 $10,000 Bank of America specimen Clearing House certificate, a 1907 $500 Stockton (California) Clearing House certificate, and a $1,000 Seattle Clearing House certificate.
