Among the focused collections at Heritage’s Platinum Night session on Aug. 14 was the Noel Thomas Patton Collection, Part II, of Standing Liberty quarter dollars. Heritage called it “Among the most impressive to appear on the market in recent memory.”

Leading the offering was a bit of a sleeper in the series: a 1919-D Standing Liberty quarter dollar graded Mint State 66+ Full Head by Professional Coin Grading Service that realized $132,000.

The price improved on the $114,000 the coin sold for in Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ 2020 D. Brent Pogue Part VII offering.

The Denver Mint issue is considered one of the rarest dates in the series with Full Head definition, and this one featured a sharp date. What’s more, the 2020 offering shared, “Intense frosty luster covers both sides and provides swirling cartwheel visual effects under a light. It is essentially brilliant, with just the lightest blushes of pale silvery tinting here and there.”
