About U.S. Coins

1794 Liberty Cap half cent

Chief U.S. Mint Engraver Robert Scot designed the 1794 Liberty Cap half cent, which had a mintage of 81,600. Unlike the 1793 half cent, Liberty faces right on the 1794 coin.

The words TWO HUNDRED FOR A DOLLAR and one leaf are inscribed on the coin's edge.

There are two varieties for the edge lettering. In the Large Edge Letter variety, the letters are close together. The letters for the Small Edge Letter variety are more tightly spaced and smaller.

There are also two varieties of the date: Pointed or Knob 9.
