Information you can use

When hobbyists want to know about coins, they turn to Coin World -- the best and most timely, independent source of information about all aspects of collecting coins, paper money or any objects once used as money.

Published weekly, Coin World is the largest and most widely read and circulated publication for coin hobbyists in the world. Through its timely news coverage, historical features and updates highlighting new research, Coin World provides collectors with the knowledge and insight they need to understand, appreciate and enjoy their collecting pursuits.

Highlights from the print version of Coin World's news coverage are posted daily, Monday through Friday, at CoinWorld Online (www.coinworld.com). The Editorial from the current issue is also posted, providing insight on how what's happening today is likely to affect collectors and the marketplace.

From its very first issue (April 21, 1960), Coin World has used its editorial voice to advocate for coin collectors and provide leadership in ensuring the hobby is an inviting and stimulating environment. In fact, Coin World's editor, Beth Deisher, was the lead witness at the July 12, 1995, congressional hearing that catapulted the drive for circulating commemoratives to the top of the U.S. Congress' legislative agenda, eventually resulting in approval of the legislation authorizing the 50 State quarters program. Coin World's opinion pages are considered by many to be the "heartbeat" of the hobby. Collectors and policymakers alike say they turn first to Coin World's Letters to the Editor, Guest Commentary and Editorial to learn what is truly on the minds and hearts of the nation's collectors.

Coin World was also the first publication available to coin collectors to report timely, independent and trustworthy information on the retail market values of all U.S. coins. In its special Trends section, Coin World today publishes more than 50,000 current values for U.S. coins. Coin World's Trends analyst develops marketplace values and spots market direction by monitoring a variety of sources such as public auctions, transactions at coin shows, retail ads, dealers' price lists, dealer-to-dealer trading and private collector transactions. Coin World's Trends analyst also provides unique insight and observations in a weekly column, giving collectors an edge in understanding why prices in the various coin series are moving up or down (or not moving at all) and alerting them as to how such changing conditions may be opportunities.

Coin World also publishes on a quarterly basis Trends of Canadian coins and twice yearly Trends of Mexican coins.

Unmatched in its reporting of news stories affecting collectors and the coins and other numismatic collectibles awaiting discovery, Coin World through the years has given priority to helping collectors learn about their coins. Coin World's longest-running column is "Collectors' Clearinghouse." Originally dealing with the wide spectrum of U.S. coins and other items, Collectors' Clearinghouse today focuses primarily on errors. Other difficult-to-identify items are the subject of "Readers Ask." Both columns are written by Randy Camper, a Coin World staff writer and an expert in die varieties.

Every issue of Coin World provides a cornucopia of renowned regular columnists who share their knowledge and advice.

For example: How do you keep your new coins from tarnishing?

How do you know if the container you have your coins in is safe for long-term storage?

Is there a way to test for moisture where you keep your paper money collectibles?

Coin World columnist Susan Maltby is a museum conservator and an expert in caring for and saving coins and paper money. Readers of her regular column, "Preserving Collectibles," have gleaned hundreds of priceless tips and practical ideas to help them safely store, exhibit and handle their coins and paper money.

Other experts and renowned collectors whose columns regularly appear in Coin World include:

· David T. Alexander provides the details and history long forgotten or previously unknown about the people and events behind the images on medals and coins in "The Research Desk."

· Q. David Bowers, acclaimed as the most prolific writer and researcher in modern times, in "The Joys of Collecting," provides timely and fun-packed glimpses of collecting adventures and ideas.

Writing for Coin World

Coin World publishes news and features on a wide spectrum of numismatic topics. Its primary readership collects U.S. coins and paper money; therefore, its priority interests are news and features about U.S.-oriented material.

Coin World purchases freelance material. We prefer that writers query rather than provide unsolicited manuscripts.

The query should be a short overview or outline of the proposed feature or news story. In addition, the writer should state:

· Length in number of words.

· Whether he/she will supply photos or illustrative artwork.

· When the manuscript will be available.

· Whether the manuscript is original research and/or uses other published sources.

Coin World purchases all rights and pays upon publication.
